– TOWARDS PEOPLE, Teatr Biuro Podróży`s retrospective in photographs.

Since 1998 Teatr Biuro Podrozy created 14 performances presented more than thousand times for various public in more than 50 countries all over the world. Our intention was and still remains today, to go against the model of traditional repertoire theatre and create new modes of expression, explore and extend theatre’s possibilities. Our mission has always been to reach out to new audiences (especially those who would not normally have access to artistic events). This particular aim has been behind the creation of our many open-air performances and social based projects. Our life has become a travel – the way towards people.

“Together they came up with a name Biuro Podrozy (Travel Agency). This as as ironic joke with poetic undertones. In a country behind the Iron Curtain, where strict government control encompassed virtually all areas of life, very few people were granted passports. The rest could  travel only in their imagination. This was the aim of this Poznan theatre – to offer an escape to the world of art.[...]

This magic is recorded in images that existed for an instant, preserved  by photography” Roman Pawłowski: Beetween Earth and Heaven

THEATRE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES, Carmen Funebre in the Palestinian Refugee Camp in Bourj el Barajneh/Beirut. Photographer: Przemek Kulczyk

In October 2008 Teatr Biuro Podróży worked in Bourj el Barajneh, the Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut. Together with the Palestinians we reconstructed the set for the performance of Carmen Funebre and performed it in the camp for the inhabitants who never had theater experience in the ca before. These photographs document our stay in the camp and show the conditions that 20 thousand people are forced to exist in in the area of 1 square kilometer. The camp is a maze of narrow passages between the poorly built concrete buildings. Most of the refugees remain unemployed. Almost all of them are not regarded as the full right citizens of Lebanon. The project was a part of still continued long therm activity “Theatre withoud Boundaries” which aim is to share the art  of Teatr Biuro Podróży with people in the places of heightened tension of both political and social reasons.

In collaboration with Amnesty International we will perform Carmen Funebre in Edinburgh to raise the funds for displaced and forgotten people.

– WANDERING PLANET LEMthe characters from the performance touring in Europe.

The world tour of Planet Lem launched on the 1st of July, 2011 as a  flagship project of Polish EU Presidency Cultural Program. Co-produced by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, performance by Teatr Biuro Podróży was shown in Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow and Kiev, in cooperation with local partners, Polish Institutes and Polish Embassies.

The performance is inspired by Stanisław Lem's fiction, his unique, witty and poignant diagnosis of the contemporary world, and his reflection on the relations between technological progress and limitations of the human race.

Crossing the border between the theater space and public areas was documented in a number of images from European capitals.
