Master of Hunger by Teatr Biuro Podróży reveals the mechanisms that create a man in a media show.
What has television not seen yet? We had plastic surgeries and weight loss. How about 40 day fast? It is strange that noone has done it. Apparently, tv producers rarely read Kafka. The story about a man who abandoned his family to become Master of Hunger, is a perfect idea for the reality show. And this tv convention has been used by Paweł Szkotak.,84952.html

The performance is inspired by Franz Kafka`s story and it managed to create so called Kafkaesque atmosphere. The show led by demonic master of ceremony becomes the kind of perverse fight for survival. Franz who takes part in the contest, knows perfectly the game rules – the winning award means death of hunger or exhaustion.
The director, Paweł Szkotak, creates a contemporary morality play operating with different symbolics and using the possibilities offered by new media. The main character resembles Christ in his denudation. He is tormented with different temptations, and becomes ennobled in his humiliation. At the same time Szkotak`s performance is not spoilt with moralizing and uses many different theatre means.,36037,18667198,teatr-wraca-na-ulice-miasta.html#ixzz3zrb9N4ih
